This is the type 2 Reciprocating Rotating Vertical Shaft mechanism. Turn the handle on the side of the box and the ingenious mechanism rotates the shaft back and forth. This mechanism would be perfect for animating the Owl Papertoy!
M.C Escher was a Dutch artist who specialised in producing mathematically inspired wood cuts. Many of his pictures features intricate tessellations of creatures perfectly locked together.
