There are two contest running on the excellent Instructables website that all you paper crafters might be interested in entering. Both of them are to design and make a paper craft project of some sort.
Perhaps you could enter a project like the Owls by Taunise that are roosting in the forums or you could start with the crank slider mech shown here and make an automata model. The possibilities are endless and there are loads of splendid prizes on offer
