It’s Not Origami

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

I received an email from Perry Newby this morning. Perry has wanted to try making my Laser Cut Cupid model but didn’t have access to a laser cutter. She did, however, have a paper cutter so she set about making the cupid from laminated paper.

The result is fantastic!

Perry then went on to make this flying horse. (Check out the cloud detail in the base!)…

My favourite of Perry’s three creations is this unicyclist.
Brilliant stuff Perry! Thanks for sharing!

You can see his wonderful YouTube video here.

    Incredible that people are

Incredible that people are able to take the initial engineering design and modify it so creatively. You've been amazing to share these models with all of us so we can experiment and learn.

And Perry's machines are fantastic! And I appreciate her acknowledgment of your generosity too.

That was very clever! I had not thought of laminating paper, to simulate laser cuts!

Thank you Rob for such kind

Thank you Rob for such kind praise.  My passion is origami but I am a folder, not a designer.  Your work here has inspired me and in this medium, with your instructional projects, perhaps I'll become a designer.  Thank you too, for noticing the cloud detail.

    Absolutely fabulous Perry, I

Absolutely fabulous Perry, I bet Rob is in awe of your paper skills! I know Rob loves his laser cutter, I am amazed at how well you have made these in paper. You're both very talented.
