…Gently Down the Stream

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

The mechanism from the last post fits nicely into the box and it works! Yay!

I've added cut away sides to the box because I think the mechanism itself is pretty and well worth looking at 🙂

From underneath the full link bars are clear. Some size will need to me modified slightly, I'll probably space the three cranks slightly further apart. Apart for that I'm pleased with how things are progressing.

And here it is in all its animated glory. This is a twelve frame animation rather than the usual eight frame. It does smooth the motion out but makes the file larger.

I now need to fit a boat to the top with rowing characters in place. I'm quite tempted by the idea of a 'Ship of Fools'… Not sure yet.

Fantastic, Rob! Before I forget: row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream. 🙂

    Utter and firm genius.

    That

    Utter and firm genius.

That motion could animate so many different types of actions. I see a trio of tap dancers.

That would be cool! I sometimes just just operate a mechanisms and look at it moving then try to imagine what would fit on the top of the mechanism. I’m sure it looks like I’ve gone off in a daze but I’m actually thinking hard. Honest. – RI

        Clowns on stilts line dance

Clowns on stilts line dance shown in circus-land has a rack and pinion and the movement seems flat. It is interesting but I guess Rob's mechanism is different in the sense that it has a different feel and can produce a different line-dance.

Rob's is a totally innovative idea and has at least two possibilities – boat and dance.

How about three chimpanzees dancing in a line, or if it is not appealing, rowing a boat?

Alright, how about penguins? Rob doesn't have a penguin in his collection (that is, I assume.)

It is a nice cute project but does not seem like it is Rob's. Is it?

I am wondering if three giraffes can dance instead – just thinking loud. It is up to Rob to decide.

I'll take photographs while I'm putting together the latest version of the mechanism and upload it as a project for members to download.

maybe rob could just make a

maybe rob could just make a post of just the mechanism then all of us could just create and add whatever character we wanted to the mechanism.
