Fold flat dodecahedron

Sat, 11 Sep 2010

Further experiments with fold flat shapes, this time a flat folding dodecahedron.

It's a slightly tricky shape to fold flat as there is no straight line dividing the shape in two. To get over this I have added five tabs, each with a double crease which allows the shape to fold flat. It works reasonably well but I'd prefer that it was more stable. Further experimentation needed I think. There is a file for members to download if you'd like to give it a go.

    Hi Rob,
    An alternative

    Hi Rob,

An alternative version of a pop-up dodecahedron is here. The only downside is you end up with an elastic band round the outside of the model.

    I also discovered this page, with a model of a pop-up icosahedron…
