Edison Strips

Tue, 13 Aug 2013

In response to my various articles on recording and playing back sounds I was very kindly sent these Edison's Phonograph Strips by Klaus from AstroMedia Verlag in Germany.

Run your fingernail along the strips and a recorded message is played, the fours strips here play the phrases, Good Morning, Happy Birthday, Congratulations and Merry Christmas. I've only had a very quick go with them but  can report that they work well! One end pressed against the body of a guitar, a quick pull and out come the words. Amazing! The card backing the pack is for construction of a bespoke sounding cone which I'll be trying out next.

A close look at the surface of the strip reveals a textured surface, the secret to the playback technology.

I'm only back in the 'office' briefly then away again first thing in the morning. I'm looking forward to testing out the possibilities of these sounds strips as soon as I get back. Thanks Klaus!
