Butterflies and Puppy Dog Tails

Sun, 30 Jan 2011

I'd gone out and left a butterfly shapes note for my True Love. While I was out I got to thinking that I could probably link the butterfly to the pendulum model that I'm working on at the moment. I reckoned it would probably make a nice model for Valentine's day which, I'm sure you've noticed, is approaching fast.

Here's the result:

The trembling wing movement works well I think. Obviously, in this prototype, I've stuck a butterfly on a box which I'd designed for a a wagging dog model so it'll need a few changes. My initial plan is to make a tree stump for the butterfly to perch on as per the sketch below.

Next step: make a prototype on the new box shape – quickly! February soon!

    Superb, Rob! Infinites

Superb, Rob! Infinites possibilities with this mechanism….It reminds me one of your model, from the book: four working models…the pecking. It uses a lever to move, so it could work in this model, too instead of grabbing it. What do you think?
