I received this comment in workshop notes - it sounds interesting to me. What does everyone think?

What do you think about making a Rob Ives Subscription Club of an affordable amount for most everyone, say $25/yr., that will give 3-4 model patterns to print out and put together over the course of the year. Like a global micro sponsorship. The numbers *may* crunch out in your favor by far.My thought is that that way we'd get to contribute hard money to you, as would be my preference, rather than getting freebees and never being able to justify buying a model willy nilly, especially when some are given away.

I too think It's a good idea. I'm for it. Used to have one at Fiddlers, but now for some reason my Internet Explorer will not let me get on line with them. I wish I could.

I'll have to check into the mechanics of this but it looks like an interesting idea! Does anyone have an idea of price range for a years access? What do other sites charge?

Deal,

Check your security software, it may have erroneously identified Fiddlers Green as a threat - I had the same thing happen after updating some SpyBot

 Rob, I just posted this

Rob, I just posted this same reponse in the Workshop Notes section.  I have to agree with Deal's response there.  Subscription based plans are both good and bad.  Good in that one could, hopefully, pay less for models than if purchasing them individually.  Bad in that one would have no guarantee of new model availability, or the number of such, within the given subscription timeframe.  For your own online survival, against the masses of potentially miffed subscriptionists, it may be advisable to incorporate some sort of subscription guarantee.  For example, if you opt for going with a yearly subscription service, then you may need to guarantee a minimum of 1 new model every 2 months (every 8.67 weeks) so that the subscriber just overly breaks even, given the 14.95L yearly subscription price versus the 2.50L individual model price.  It may even be better to offer a minumum of 1 new model every 6 or 7 weeks.  This makes for a better offer for the subscription service, and it helps keep people coming back for at least a year's time.  Yes, it does put you on the hook, but it really should if you are going to offer such a service.  And what should the guarantee be?  Perhaps a refund of one half the subscription price, or a free subscription renewal, or free access to a certain number of already available downloable models.  Based upon how you craft the service, and the guarantee, this could be a good boon for your site, or a bust.

Thanks

Thanks to all the people who spent the time to comment or email about the proposed subscription service. With these comments in mind I've made a couple of changes. Firstly, a subscription will be only £9.95 a year rather than the original proposal o £14.95. There is also the option to pay every six months. There will be a roling access of the two most recent download models for new subscribers as well as all the models for the upcoming year.

I'm not sure how many models I'll be creating over the course of a year and I understand the point that as a subscriber, you are taking a bit of a gamble. As a guarantee then, if I don't create a model in any one quarter, I'll send all subscribers a gift token so that they can choose any existing model from the download shop for free. In practice I would hope to create at least two new downloads each quarter as well as extra projects and downloads on workshop notes.

Subscriptions are working now - you can sign up here!
