The Geneva drive is a mechanism for creating intermittent rotary motion. In this version the red wheel is driven, for each turn of the red wheel, the yellow Geneva wheel turns one fifth of a turn.

This is the first draft of a laser cut Geneva drive mechanism.

The two parts of the driven wheel are held together with tight fitting pins.

As you’d expect with a first draft there are a couple of changes that need making. As the drive wheel turns, the pin that turns the yellow wheel goes very close to the end of the slot. A couple of extra millimeters depth would be good. Also, I think I’ll chamfer off the corners of the ends so that they don’t catch on the crescent shaped part. Looking good though, and it does work!
