Paper Cutters and a Poseable Dinosaur

Sat, 11 May 2019

I’ve been experimenting with the Silhouette Cameo 3 as a way of cutting out parts for projects. Its looking like a promising way to make model making simpler so I’m going to try producing a couple of projects specifically designed for the paper cutter. First will be this poseable dinosaur model. I’m hoping to get two versions posted next week, a standard cut out and make version and a version for paper cutter. Watch this space…

I’m really looking forward to trying out some of the projects using a paper cutting machine. I would appreciate if you would take into account the print size limits for those of use of us using the Cricut cutters. I know you have a Silhouette machine. I have been using the Silhouette software business edition from which I can export an SVG file to use on the Cricut.
I’ve been playing with seeing if I can get some of the PDF files from your previous projects into SVG files. I got one uncolored mechanism converted. Today I was trying a model that had some graphics too so that I would want to do a print and cut rather than a simple cut. That reminded me of the size limits, 6.75 x 9.25 inches, of the printable area for the Cricut cutters.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

You are very welcome. It will be fun to try this when you get a model available for download. If you need anyone to test cut a file using a Cricut machine I would be willing to do so. I’ve been meaning to try some of the models you made with the chipboard or light wood too, but haven’t had time for that yet. I believe the Cricut Maker I have should be able to cut some of those types of materials. Or if too thin, with the precision cut I could bond two layers together after the cut.
