Elephant – completed prototype

Fri, 4 Oct 2013

All the parts laid out and put together for the flex-trunk elephant.

Pull the tail and the trunk raises.

Small slot at the back through which the tail runs.

In the view from the underside you can see where the tail runs through the body and connects to the trunk tendon.

Here's a Vine animation of the assembled prototype. Standing, as it happens, on my copy of Origin of Species.

Colour next. I'm going with pink. Darwin would be proud.

Yes, pink is everybody's first choice! How is he able to stand stable when his tail is pulled? Also, without that book – Origin of Species – his trunk will not fit his body. Not sure if ihe needs a mahout? It seems like an Indian elephant more than African elephant. Whatever he is – he looks handsome.

    Love the elephant –

Love the elephant – brilliant. Perhaps it should be named Darwin (you could make a little "Origin of the Species" stand for it – haha). Wonderful.
