Printing on US Letter size paper

Good day,

Well after lurking around here for sometime, I have now become a subscriber and tonight I printed the crow model.

I would think that Rob designs for the A4 size paper, however, I live in Canada, where the availabe paper size is US Letter (8.5 x 11 inchs).

The Crow model has pages that need to be printed on both sides, after serveral attemps on differnet settings, I cannot get the two sides to line up properly, there is always a small portion on one side or the other that does not get ink.

The best attemp was the one with no print settings in the paper handling section on the print dialog window. In the Paper Scalling field I put None and removed the check marks in the Rotate and Center option. (I did try all combinations of options).

But still there are some small issues of missing ink.

Rob, may I suggest that you increase the underside ink area a bit. I beleive this would help and should not be an issue since this is on the side we do not cut. Please let me know if you want pictures of the problematique areas.

Maybe someone has a suggestion that I could try?

I will update you tomorrow, as these tests were printed on my laser printer, since I ran out of ink for the inkjet printer,  I could notl see if there are any issues on the inkjet, but I belive that I will still have the same issues.

Cheers,

Paul C.

 Maybe I'm just being dense

Maybe I'm just being dense here, but I can't see what the problem is. First of all my Adobe Reader/printing program indicates 8 1/2 X 11 size when printing. I use an HP Photosmart C6180 printer. I didn't have to make any adjustments at all and the "backside" printing covered all of the "front side." There was even a little overlapping.

I know you are having trouble. Just wish I could help. But I did want Rob to know that his designing is working at least for some of us.

I use A4 size when designing

I use A4 size when designing but the printing should work on Letter size. I can certainly increase the border size on future models.

Before you give up, check to see if you have an offset option on the printing page or that you have Auto-Rotate and Centre button ticked in Acrobat.

Hi Rob,

I will look for the offset option tonight, as for the center and rotate this option has been turn off (un-checked).

Maybe it is just my HP 3600 Color Laser printer, I will try tonight with my Hp 2200 Business inkjet printer.

I will also post a few picts to explain exactly how much is missing, it is not very much when all option are off, but still a bit has no color.

Cheers and thanks for the quick response,

Paul C.

I do hope the rain has stopped for you and that you are dry!

Wow, having a hard time to

Wow, having a hard time to adjust to this forums options and keystrokes, hihi

Ok, I did serveral tests on both printers and had the same issues - results.

The worst was when no options selected, the best was when the "Fit to Printable Area" is selected in the drop down field in the "Page Handling" section of the "Print Window".

However, there are still issues, some worst then others, lower Beak, Air Tube, Right eye.

The miss of ink on the back side is always on the right hand side, when looking from the front, so when looking at the eyes, with a light table, the right hand side of the right eye is mssing some ink, less than 1 mm but still missing, same with the Lower beak, the Air Tube, the wing with the tips to the right. The feet are just okay, the backside ink finishes flush with the line, same with then mouth.

-Anonymus: any suggestions most welcome.

---UPDATE---

I just downloaded and installed Reader version 9, as I am using Acrobate Pro8 and figiured it could not hurt, the results are better. I even tried print TMC and had the same issues and the best print was achieved with Fit to Printable area.

Rob, I would like to suggest than in future creation, just to add a little bit more bleed on the back side.

Cheers,

Paul C.

thanks for your research

thanks for your research efforts Paul!

I've changed the file on the Crow model to increase the bleed size on the back, it is available to download in Workshop Notes. If you get chance (and have any ink left!) let me knw if it works.

No, Thank you Rob

Hi Rob and thanks,

The New Crow downloads now just fine and the bleed on the back is more than perfect, you really bleed it.

My efforts are nothing, compared to the hours of enjoyment you bring, I have a good deal on ink...

I also tried printing at the office on our Konica machine and had the same issues (this machines print drivers offer even more options and still no joy), with the old crow, black crow and TMC.

Anonymous: What PDF print program are you using?

So to sum up; If Printing on US Letter and having issues, Select the 'Fit to Printable Area'.

Cheers,

Paul C.
