Here's a quick download for you to try. This is a experimental mechanism (if that is the right word) which will be used in a more complete kit at a later date. It does work though and is rather fun!

The swanee whistle is a whistle with variable pitch. Pull the slider in and out and the pitch goes up and down. Download and print out the file from the end of this blog post, it is free for anyone to try.

It is a simple model but must be put together carefully and accurately. I printed out the parts sheet onto slightly heavier card than I usually use. 280 micron.

Score the dotted lines, cut out the air hole then cut out the parts carefully.

Fold the outer tube round and glue it together accurately. Fit the cover over the end of the tube so that the bottom edges of the cover line up with the bottom of the outer tube.

Assemble the inner tube. Set both parts to one side until the glue is completely dry.

Fit the inner tube into the outer tube. It should be a close fit but be free to move in and out.

Blow through the hole between the cover and the outer tube and the whistle should sound. Pull the inner tube in and out and the pitch will change!

Here's a quick mechanism for you to download and try. You can download it for free at the end of this post. It is a simple joint designed to move both back and forth and side to side. It could be used as the waist joint in a bendable character with friction locks to hold it in place once it is posed.

Print out two copies of the file below. I used two different colours of card. Glue the two sliders back to back, notice that they are rotated 90 degrees to each other.

Glue the two hinges inside of the sliders. Line up the end of the small part with the crease in the slider.

Make up the two bodies.

Glue the ends of the bodies to the hinges.

Place the slider covers over the sliders and glue them down. Make sure you don't get any glue on the slider. Otherwise it won't slide.

That's it, let the glue dry. The joint should now be free to move back and forth and side to side. Now to work out how this fits into a working model.

Download Snap Up Heart

This model was originally available on the Flying Pig website - I've updated the artwork and redone the photographs. I've made it available as a free download, there is a link that anyone can use at the end of this post.

The Snap-Up Heart folds flat and slips into a card ready to be sent to your true love. When opened the heart pops out and the flutter will spin making your love's heart flatter with delight.

Print the parts page out onto thin card. 230 gram card does the job nicely.

Score along all the dotted lines then carefully cut out the parts. Fold along all the dotted lines to make the heart flexible.

Fold the heart in half and glue down the three flaps (1-3) Make sure than no glue comes out from under the flaps!

Cut out the four small triangle on either side of the heart. These are holes for the elastic band to thread through.

Cut a long thin elastic band so that it makes a single length of elastic. Thread both ends through the holes on one side of the heart and out through the holes on the other side. Tweezers are useful here! Pull them tight enough to close the top of the heart then tie them in a double knot.

Fold the last two flaps into place and glue them down making sure that the dotted lines are valley folds. Hold the heart flat until the glue has completely dried.

Flutter! Fold the small heart in half and glue it together. Once the glue has dried carefully cut it out.

Last bit! This bit is a little tricky, think of it as a demonstration of love!

Slide the flutter between the two strands of the elastic band and carefully wind it up. If possible get your dog to check to see if your gluing is okay (!?)

That's it! Keep the heart flat and slip it inside a book or greeting card.

Download Agreeable Sheep

The Agreeable Sheep has moved from the Flying Pig web site to her new home here at robives.com. As a member you can download the parts file for free at the bottom of this post - I hope you enjoy it.

You will need a pair of scissors, some glue and a glue spreader. The best type of glue to use is white school glue  (PVA.) A pair of tweezers will also be useful.
Print out the parts sheets onto thin card. Note that the parts sheets are marked front and back. Print out the front, flip the card over, pop the card back in the printer and print the back. Leave the ink to dry completely before continuing.
Before cutting anything out, score along all the dotted lines. This job is easier to do on full sheets of paper.
Dashed lines are hill folds, dotted lines are valley folds. Cut along the solid lines. Grey areas show where to glue.

Fold the body inner round and glue it together. (1)

Glue the body inner into the body. Use the two very small dots on the outside of the body to line up the diagonal corners of the body inner. (2) You might need to hold the body up to the light to see through it.

Roll the body round and glue it to the other side of the body inner. (3)

Assemble the head. (4)

Glue the neck to the head. (5)

Glue the neck to the body inner. (6)

Fold the two flaps at the bottom of the Box round and glue them into place. (7)

Glue the two halves of the Box together. (8)
Glue on the Box Top. (9-10)
Fold the bottom flaps over and glue them into place. (11)
Fold the side supports round and glue them down. (12)
Glue the sheep to the Box top. (13-14)

Find a coin of approximately 20mm diameter. A penny in the UK or a cent in Europe and the USA will be ideal.
Wrap the Coin Holder round the coin and glue it down. (15)
Glue the coin into the centre of the Cam Follower. (16)

Fold round and glue the Cam Follower. (17)

Glue the Cam Follower into place in the box (18)

Fold round and glue the Push-rod. (19)

Thread the Push-rod up through the hole in the top of the box and glue it first to the inside of the Head (20)...

...then to the Cam Follower. (21)

Fold round and glue the Cam Shaft. (22)
Glue on the Cam (23)

Thread the Cam Shaft into the box making sure that the green end goes to the hole with the green ring.
Glue the two washers onto the cam shaft. (24)

Assemble the handle in three steps.
Glue the two square sections as shown. (25-26)
Fold the two square sections into each other and glue. (27)
Fold the long flap round and glue into place. (28)
Glue the handle into place. (29)

Finish off the model by gluing the Box Back into place on the back of the model. (30)

Not one to stand out of the crowd, our woolly friend agrees with everything you say...
"Is this a good colour scheme?"  "Yes!"
"Would you like to go for a walk?" "Yes!"
"Are you having a good time?" "Yes!"
"Does my bum look big in this?"  ...probably best not to ask.
With this agreeable model you need never get a second opinion again.
Baa baa baa!

I'm in the process of updating the store. It is currently run using the e-junkie framework, an excellent system which handles everything for me. There are a few things that I can't get it to do though and so, over time, I'm going to be moving the shop onto my own server. I'm planning to use a script by moneyscripts - but it doesn't quite do what I need yet so I'm waiting...

One of the probems I keep running up against with e-junkie is that pricing structure. I pay a monthly fee  determined by the number of products I have in my shop. I'm just butting up against one of the price points at the moment. If I add one more product the monthly fee goes up by 50% and although it isn't a huge dollar amount it rankles. The upshot is I've been going through the store deleting bits and pieces that are no longer linked too and I came across this caveman.

I think I may have posted it before on the Flying Pig site but its been a while so... I hope you enjoy it!

It's from the printed T.Rex kits which is available here.

Download Hot Choc

I made a hot chocolate for my True Love. I was adding the usual heart shaped pattern on the top of the drink but somehow managed to rip the template card.

Time to print out a new one. I went to the laptop and there, on the hard disk, was a half completed file of templates that I'd forgotten about. So, while Pauline is watching Ghost (!?) I've completed a set of six templates and this blog entry.

If you're a subscriber you'll be able to download the pdf file at the bottom.

Print out the bits onto paper and run them though your home laminator, this makes the templates water proof, hot choc proof and easy to clean. Once laminated, cut out the parts then cut out the holes with a sharp knife.

Put the templates on top of your hot chocolate drink  and sprinkle on some hot choc powder. Ta daa!

I found this model while I was tidying up files on my hard disk. I originally designed the Cat-o-log to be printed in an old Flying Pig catalogue.

The model is a pdf file ready to print out.
