After a morning of putting together a prototype I returned from the shower to find this. That 'Grrr' sound you hear isn't the dog. The dog ate my homework.

...and that's why I'm a cat person.

I mentioned a while back that a website visitor had converted the Dog Ate My Homework model into a a recorder related equivalent. This morning the postman brought me a magazine "Blokfluitist" with an article about that very model!

The magazine was sent by the same person, Annette from the Netherlands. I'm afraid I haven't a clue what the article says but Annette assures me that it is all good.

Thanks Annette!

Annette Nicolai, a teacher from the Netherlands sent me this wonderous picture!

She teaches recorder and occasionally the children come out with implausible excuses as to why they haven't been practicing. Now, when they come up with an excuse she'll get this model from her desk and crank the handle a couple of times.

"No excuses!"

Thanks very much Annette I was delighted to get you email!

 Come and get it!

The Dog Ate My Homework model is now available on the website. Initially I have uploaded the premium version. Full colour, gift cover, the works.

On 20th October, two weeks from now, I'll release a free++ mono version of the model.

I've completed the layout of the parts pages and the instructions for Dog Ate My Homework. I've done the graphics for the webpages and written some copy. All I need to do is finish off the gift cover and we're ready to go.

All things being equal the Dog Ate My Homework will be live on the website tomorrow.

Woo hoo!

A quick post script. I'm nearly up to triple figures on my Twitter feed. Sign up for website updates. If you've already signed up - tell a friend! I've changed the twitter picture from the logo at the top of the page (It's a glider from John Conway's game of life) to a picture of me. Hope it doesn't scare too many people away!

Dog Ate My Homework bits ready to assemble. I'll be taking photographs of the assembly as I go. The evenings are drawing in now, in the summer months I take photographs by natural light in the conservatory. In the winter, I crack out the studio lights and set them up in the dining room/studio. This time of year is a sort of half way house. I'll wait till the morning and do it then.

A small amount of progress today on damh. All the bits go together nicely and the number looks like it is okay. There was talk on the forum about making a version where the tail wags.

For simplicity I have decided against this, though, through the worders of the creative commons share alike licence, anyone who want to modify the model is free to do so.

I've been thinking about perhaps adding a little scene in the premium version. Rug, walls, fireplace, that kind of thing. I reckon that the mechanism on the free and premium version should be the same. The premium version can have additions but not things that change the way it works. See, I'm developing a protocol!

DAMH is still on course for an early release.

Early stage prototype - turn the handle and the head flips back and forth twice for each turn of the handle. The motion looks good! I need to add a body and legs.

I've had loads of downloads for the new Reindeer model - obviously the free model has out numbered the paid one but I've been pleased with the number of people who have chosen to buy. Thanks!

I still have a lot of work to do on the website. I really need to sort out the front page perhaps add a rolling 'what's new' section and I have to get all the downloadables uploaded to the shop.

I've been looking round the Instructables website. I'm pretty sure they must have some full time web people working on it, but really, it is fantastic! Everything fits together so neatly, the interface is beautifully simple and it just works. That's what I should be aiming at. Perhaps I could clone myself...
