I'm still thinking about the Subscriber's area. There seems to be a fair bit of confusion between paid subscription and newsletter subscription - the problem being that the word subscription is the same in both!

So what do you think about 'Extra' or 'Plus' as names for the subscriber's feature. Or do you have any other ideas? Comments or emails both welcome.

Off to take the dog for a walk.

Hmm... I sort of like the "plus-plus" :-) but wouldn't it be clearer to call it "site/workshop membership" or something along those lines?

It is, after all, a way to unlock the treasures and get "within" the site.

You could have 2 levels of subscriptions a  paid one and a free one. The paid one could be the newsletter plus the services that you're including now. The free one would be the newsletter. It could be kind of like you did before ie. with a free file once or twice a year or the outline files idea that you had as an enticement to pay for the paid service.

The membership idea is good also.

Hi Rob,

I agree that the subscription can be confusing if you're not a member.  I think that calling it something different would help.  Maybe it could be subscriber and member subscriber.

Thanks for all your wonderful designs.  You're the one who got me hooked on paper models.

I like the Extra!

Like a news paper boy's shout  "Extra! Extra!"

'Cause with the paid subscription you are getting an Extra behind the scenes edition.

And

Extra content.

Maybe avoid the "subscription" word altogether? Buy a membership, get access to the Member's Area. (50% discount for members! etc.)

What you really want is to not guess which one of these is better but to actually test them. Using something like Google's Website Optimizer (https://www.google.com/analytics/siteopt/splash?account=87100&hl=en) you can do A/B comparison between the two. Serve each of them up randomly to incoming people and see which of the two leads to more conversions after a week or two.

I agree Membership would be better, it would imply something more that a subscribing.

Maybe you would want to tier the membership level, Gold-Silver-Bronze or something like that.

Free: Bronze - Basic only News Letter

Price A: Silver - Bronze+ the last downloadable content and all the upcoming one for the year

Price B: Gold - Silver + All past downloads and the 50% discount on the store products.

By having everyone on a membership, everyone would feel apart of something.

Thanks for all the feedback everybody. I'll be mulling it over and sorting this out as soon as I have put a couple of other projects to bed.
